DuoCaption respects your privacy. This policy explains what data DuoCaption accesses, how it is used, and how it is stored.
DuoCaption does not collect, transmit, or store any personal information on external servers. We do not track your Netflix viewing history, account information, or browsing activity.
All user data is stored locally in your browser and never leaves your device:
IndexedDB: Saved sentences and review progress are stored in the browser's IndexedDB database.
Chrome Storage (sync): Appearance settings and user preferences are stored in Chrome's sync storage.
You can delete all data at any time by removing the extension.
DuoCaption requests the following host permissions for its core functionality:
netflix.com and nflxvideo.net — to display dual subtitles on Netflix video pages and access subtitle track data.
fonts.googleapis.com and fonts.gstatic.com — to load custom Google Fonts for subtitle display.
These permissions are used only for the stated purposes.
Google Translate: When you hover over a word in the subtitles, that word is sent to Google Translate for translation. No other data is sent.
Google Fonts: Custom fonts are loaded from Google's CDN when selected by the user in subtitle settings.
Google Analytics: The DuoCaption website (duocaption.com) uses Google Analytics to collect anonymous page view statistics. Analytics is NOT active within the Chrome extension itself.
No data is sent to any other third-party service.
DuoCaption only processes data based on explicit user actions:
Word translation: Only triggered when you hover over a word in the subtitles. No data is sent until you actively interact.
Saving sentences: Only occurs when you click the save button. No content is saved automatically.
Font loading: Only occurs when you select a custom font in settings.
By installing and using DuoCaption, you consent to the data practices described in this policy.
All data is stored locally in your browser with no expiration. Data is retained until you choose to delete it.
You can delete your data at any time by:
Individual items: Delete specific saved sentences through the review page interface.
All data: Remove the DuoCaption extension from Chrome, which will delete all associated IndexedDB and Chrome Storage data.
This privacy policy may be updated from time to time. Changes will be reflected on this page.
